A few details coming up from the cable car stop at Fisherman’s Wharf. Normally you can have well over an hour in which to study the details while waiting in line, but we were jet lagged and up and about way before the crowds – not a bad way to start the day 🙂
How close can you get? I wonder how many thousands of tourists have hung onto this cable car strap?

In 1982 the whole cable car system was taken apart and renovated. It might well have been abolished but was saved by the people of San Francisco – an expensive renovation though probably invaluable in terms of marketing.
Well worn and well loved…
Did you know they still build cable cars? The newest one I’ve seen was only a few years old. What a unique craft!

Part of the charm of the cable cars of San Francisco is their patina – that’s a word we use here in Denmark to describe something that has been worn by age in a way that adds to the charm.

Endlessly fascinating and you’ll have plenty of time to study them as you wait in line 🙂 An advantage of being jet lagged is that we had time to ride to Fisherman’s Wharf and back long before anyone else were finished with their hotel buffet breakfasts.
