There were two areas I found charming in Helsinki – the main street running from the habor and a district behind their famous white cathedral. With the city being fairly resent, there have much space for art deco and art nouveau. Here is one detail from a building.

Only when we got to Helsinki, did we read up on the history. It turned out there wasn’t much of city there until mid-1800. Which explained why we looked wide and far for charm. But there were a couple of interesting buildings, the main train station being one.

Last spring we came across some very cheap tickets to Helsinki and found an equally cheap hotel. Why Helsinki? Why not? Neither of us had been there.

This structure was on one of the main streets. It’s made of wood and I found out later it is a chapel. Had I known I would have gone inside.

I discovered this image by happy coincidence. Remember the previous one I posted (seen below)? As I was editing it, I zoomed in to 100% and found this on my screen. While I think the first was a good image, I like this one a whole lot better. This is also the first time my full frame camera really comes to the test. I haven’t cropped anything this much before.
