Detail from below deck on the lumber barge. The ranger told us they could no longer get anything sufficient long and thick for the restoration but had to accept putting several pieces of wood together.

The barge in the foreground of the previous image was used to transport lumber from Oregon. As a rare treat a ranger stepped up as we entered the barge and offered to take us below. That part is closed off unless in the company of a ranger. It was an amazing experience – almost like being inside a gigantic tree. I’m sure you can see why…
The Ferry Building, SF 2013
I will return with some navel shots from Fisherman’s Wharf but for right now I present to you – a tower 🙂 Namely of the ferry building that for years was hidden behind an ugly freeway that the 1989 earth quake took care. Says a lot for the people of San Francisco they decided to not rebuild it.
