Fall 1, Copenhagen 2012

Remember the gorgous hollyhocks from Christianshavn? Such as this one

Well, they look a little different in late fall.

The interesting question to me is: How does this make you feel? My first reaction was a melancholic feeling of sadness. But try to look at it a little closer. Once I detached from the idea that flowers need to be colorfull and in bloom I began seeing this as truly beautiful. Less flashy, to be sure, but no less beautiful.

This shot is from the Lucia celebration at my children’s school. On the 13’th they walk around with candles singing songs to the Italian saint Santa Lucia. For some reason she is very popular as part of the Christmas celebration on Scandinavia. Perhaps because she is associated with light at the darkest time of the year.

Christmas 1, 2012

I’m not done with our trip to Ireland yet – not by half. But Christmas shots are going to look too out of place too far into January. So I’ve decided to be merry and celebrate the holiday for a while here on my blog – enjoy!

What I love most of all about Christmas is the lights. Here in Denmark it turns dark at 4 p.m. now and the sun doesn’t rise until 8 a.m. Maybe that explains my affiniation for Christmas lights and it has been especially fun this year to photograph them. This shot is from Strøget – the main shopping / pedestrian street of Copenhagen. I’ve just returned from London and see that our puny decorations must suffer from low self esteem but it’s what we’ve got. There will be some shots from London later on as well.

Reflections 1, 2012

Sorry I didn’t post last night – had guests for dinner. But I’ll do two today! I keep by my commitment to post a picture a day, though at times it is an avarage.

I’m not going to tell you what this picture is. I’ll show you in the next post instead. Let me just say that I did not do any manipulation of the picture. I didn’t even crop it.
