Mission San Rafael 1 – 2012
This picture is the first in a series of seven pictures of the mission San Rafael in the town of the same name in Marin County. There is a magic in the pink glow at sundown that I have tried to capture. The mission is set apart from the modern town surrounding it by its design and atmosphere.

I am fascinated by shapes, lines, and color. The blue in the sign connects with the blue front next to it, and I find something pleasing and curious about the relationship between the shape of the sign, the store windows, and the bay window above.

Fairfax Scoop serves homemade organic ice cream, and on weekends people stand in long lines. Not this day. The girl with the ice cream and the colorful table accentuates the interior, the reflexion in the store front shows us the surroundings. The result is a pictures that shifts, depending on what you focus on.
Coffee Roast, Fairfax, CA 2012
Still in Fairfax on my first day out with my new camera I loved being able to foscus on details for a purpose rather than just as a passing thought. This café, The Coffee Roast, has a lovely Art Nuveau decoration through out. Having to keep pace with my family I only had time to shoot the entrance. I like how this particuar picture turned out with the three different, but related, square blocks. The light was much better than on the other side of the entrance doors, and we get to peek inside perhaps imagining ourselves sitting there.

The next thing that caught my eye on my way through Fairfax, armed with my first ever DSLS camera, was the how the arch of the mural mirrored the arch of the building around the corner – the red color also mirrored in the mural.

Fairfax is a small community in Marin County, north of the Golden Gate bridge. Turning off the 101 you drive through San Rafael and San Anselmo to get to Fairfax. It is a bit off the beaten track in a county with some of the highest real estate prices in the US. There is a lot of old-timer hippie feel about the place, and it is my impression that the people living here have a stronger sense of community and less of a need to show off income than in several of the other little towns.
On my vacation I brought my brand new camera to take pictures during my lasst visit this time around. First I found a tree of books and a tree of leaves.

Fort Point is placed at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. The location is great but It is a cold and windy place, little sun and much moisture. I can’t imagine being stationed here. Walking around I suddenly looked through a hall way and was met with this series of doorways. There’s something about doorways.

I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, but Marin – just north of the Golden Gate Bridge – is a very special place of mine. That’s why I have chosen a picture of the Golden Gate to open this blog. I love the symbolic way the bridge spans into the mist. We know we’re going somewhere though we can’t see the goal.
This picture as well as the next are from before I got the Nikon. They are shot with a small Sony digital camera.
