At home, going to the beach means the weather will be the same as at our house, and if it’s nice and warm there’ll be plenty of playing in the sand and shallow water.
In Marin you never know what you are going to find once you get to Muir Beach. Chances are it’ll be windy, cloudy, misty at times and the sound of the waves will be accompanied by the clatter of the children’s teeth as they run around in their bathing suits.
While most people have at least seen pictures of the amazing San Francisco, let me share with you now some images from Marin – the county just north of the Golden Gate and our favorite place to stay.
Part II of “the car’s only ten blocks away…”
Best tourist advice for SF: get fit well ahead of time, bring hiking boots, keep your camera ready.

Tourists and seagulls weren’t the only visitors at the main pier of Sausalito that day. This man was playing his violin when we got there. When he finished, he packed up and rode his bike away again. Definately not a street musician!
Still a taste of the sea but this time from the other side of the Bay. This seagull obviously owns this pier in Sausalito.
A final, lovely weatherworn detail from Hyde Street Pier for this time. Maybe more next year… But it’s not the end of the San Francisco thread. Stay tuned!
So much of San Francisco’s early days were based on the proximity to the sea and the coming and going of sailing ships. For instanse, some of the present land is landfill based on abandoned ships, deserted by the crew who left the ships to stay in the rapid growing city.
