Mission San Rafael 5 – 2012

Only 100 meters from this quiet, pink serenity The Farmers Market was going on as on every Thursday through the summer. All of 4’th Street was crowded with stalls selling goods, food and produce. People were talking, bands were playing, the local tap dance group was dancing – some contrast!

Mission San Rafael 3 – 2012

Quote from Wikipedia:

Mission San Rafael Arcángel was founded in 1817 as a medical asistencia (“sub-mission”) of the Mission San Francisco de Asís as a hospital to treat sick Native Americans of the Bay Area, making it Alta California’s first sanitarium. The weather was much better in the North Bay than in San Francisco, and helped the ill to get better. It was never intended to be a stand-alone mission, but nevertheless grew and was granted full mission status on October 19, 1822.

Café Tranquebar, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2012

I aim to post pictures chronologically, and I’m not done with the pictures I took in the US. But I was suddenly left without my stash of pictures when it was time to post today. I picked this row of hats from Café Tranquebar in Borgergade in Copenhagen. It is one of my favorite places in the city – a combined book store, record store, fairtrade shop, and café. The hats were sitting at the top of a bookshelf in the black room, lit only by spotlights. My camera captured the magic of them in first try while still in auto mode.

Fairfax, CA, 2012

I am fascinated by shapes, lines, and color. The blue in the sign connects with the blue front next to it, and I find something pleasing and curious about the relationship between the shape of the sign, the store windows, and the bay window above.
