Uhhhh, I love the ice on the small pond surrounding the new aquarium in Copenhagen. And I love the organic shape. More photos to come…

This is the first image on my blog of our new aquarium – The Blue Planet. I have taken many already… Perhaps you can see why looking at this example 🙂 On this day it was bitterly cold with ice beginning to form on the small pond surrounding the entrence. I think the cold winter look suits the metallic surface of the building better than warm summer days.

I’ve just got a shot accepted for a group exhibition! The headline is “Field notes: Landscape and Architecture”. Frankly I can’t tell you why I submitted. I didn’t think I’d make to the exhibit because when I see architecture photography it seems a much more grand way of showing than I use. But the gallery is in Portland, a city I feel connected to, so I pushed the PayPal button and went through my files.

I’m very excited about this shot below being selected. It’s from the series I shot late last summer at The 8 House. I had only been photographing for about a month at that time. You can see all the shots from that area here.

When I was working with these photos after the shoot I realized something. Yes, this is a stunning, flirtatious shoe that makes my knees all wobbly and weak. But like humans prefer photographers that make them look beautiful, these shoes seem to be calling me to take their portrait.
“Pleeeease, you have to!” (flexing muscles and batting eye lashes). “You make me look beautiful.”
“But you are beautiful.”
“I know…” (flattered giggle) “But you can capture it. Pleeease…”
“Oh okay. Will you let me wear you then?”
“Are you kidding? I am so out of your league! How do you like this pose?”

I could swear this low boot at Apair was flirting with me, batting it’s lashes, flexing it’s well-trimmed, defined muscles. Sigh. I should know bettter but I fell flat on my face. There’s no hiding it when you see the next couple of shots.

I know there is so much to learn about lighting, flashes, lamps, etc. but for some reason that side to photography doesn’t attract me. I find the challenge to use what is available in terms of light and set-up more interesting. This is shot in the shop, Apair, as is.
