Tivoli 9, 2012

Fortunately two of the rides that afternoon in Tivoli were right next to a rollercoaster with a loop. I made it my mission to shoot a great picture of a rollercoaster. I kinda think I succeeded.

I did need to abide by the prime rule of showing patience, though. The ride only ran through once. Then I had to wait and wait until the next passage and the next single chance of a shot. This is the result of somewhere around the 10’th run. But I was waiting for the kids anyway.

Sidetracked

I’m sorry about my resent instability. My goal is to post one picture a day – and do it every day. This time my excuse is related to photos. I’ve spent all day yesterday working on my latest website, and I’m pretty darn proud that I shot all the pictures that I use for the design.

I decided to go with the theme of water. I also locked myself into using a black/white/red color scheme. Finally the water had to surround the island, I live on.

The pictures don’t look their best yet. I used the ‘kindergarten’ tools – color conversion on my Nikon and fine tuning with Picasa. In time they’ll get top notch Photoshop treatment. But if you want to see the result so far it’s here: http://www.karinott.dk (the content is in Danish so don’t expect to understand it :-))

Tivoli Gardens opened on August 15, 1843. The name refers to Jardin de Tivoli in Paris. It was originally placed just outside the fortications of the city. Because the park is so old, the buildings are whimsical in the original way you only find in complexes that truly are old and don’t just pretend to be.

In Denmark we boast of hosting the two oldest amusement parks in the world. I guess the Danes knows how to have a good time 🙂

Tivoli is the second oldest and more of an amusement garden. You don’t just go there for the rides. You go there for the ambience. Unfortunately the prices are so steep by now that I hardly ever come there. Except for this afternoon in September with my children along.

As a rule mixing family and photographic ambitions is a bad idea. Everyone knows that patience is one of the greatest virtues in photography and mostly you just don’t have the time to be patient if you bring the family. But that is an exercise too and sometimes they stand in line or go on rides – at least in Tivoli.

I present to you – Tivoli Gardens 2012.
