This is the first image on my blog of our new aquarium – The Blue Planet. I have taken many already… Perhaps you can see why looking at this example 🙂 On this day it was bitterly cold with ice beginning to form on the small pond surrounding the entrence. I think the cold winter look suits the metallic surface of the building better than warm summer days.

Another shot from my new location on Amager. This is shot on the parking lot of the new aquarium in Copenhagen, The Blue Planet.
I’ve found a new favorite place on Amager for taking pictures. This is from back when it was still freezing cold – a state that lasted a lot longer this year than usual.

The transition from darkness to light is marked by signs deeply ingrained in the natives. Every child knows the sequence of the flowers – eranthis, snowdrop, crocus – these milestones in measuring the progress. Every adult will stop and sniff the air through layers of winter clothes on the day of the undefinable turning point. And we all notice how the sun will finally both warm us to our chilled bones and mercilessly reveal the dirty windows and the dust piled up through the dark months.
Spring is a time of anticipation with summer still far enough in the future to promise to fulfil every dream we ever had.

The concept of spring is vital to the Danish people. We are a nation of bi-polars. At the darkest time of year we have only eight hours of light while at midsummer it gets light at 5 a.m. and only barely dark by 11 p.m. In the winter we ground, bundle up, almost hibernate, and often tempers are as short as the day. In the summer we are transformed to outgoing people eager to make the most of every single moment of the gift of light.
I created a work earlier this year about signs of spring. Today and the next couple of days I’ll show examples from this – not identical pictures but close. You can see the full series on my portfolio.
This is the entrance to Kastrupgård seen from inside the yard. When you step onto the ancient cobbled stones it seems surreal to look at the supermarket just across the street.
The self portrait from yesterday was shot here in the sharp winter sun. This is KastrupgÃ¥rd. It is an art museum very close to where I live. It was originally a country retreat, back in the 18’th Century when 4 kilometers outside the city walls was out in the country.
