As a rare treat you get two for one this time. I couldn’t decide which one to use but the photoes are too alike to warrent separate posts. Juping down was my daughter’s idea after a while of climbing up and down the wall while I was photographing. In the distance you can just make out a tall white structure to the right – that is Turning Torso in Malmø, Sweden.
I posted some pictures taken at Amager Beach (Amager Strand) a while back. Today and tomorrow I have a couple more to show you – this time from when I took my daughter there for ice cream.
This particular place is my favorite along the beach. It’s called Strandtorvet, and you can get great ice cream from a 50’ies camper and eat it while lookin across Øresumd to Sweden or watch people ride Segways, play minigolf, lie on the sand, rollerskate or practice kiteboarding. If you want peace and quiet, just go on a weekday.
As I’m listing the photos chronologically here comes a glimpes of Halvandet on a sunny day. I caught my daughter while she busy getting to her next hide-and-seek spot.
Another shot of the café on the corner of The 8 Number complex – the one with the unrestricted view of the nature reserve. I was looking for lines, though, not scenery 🙂
The 8 Number lies at the Southern most end of Ørestaden – a new city district being built on Amager, a few kilometers from the center of Copenhagen. The complex overlooks Vestamager – a nature reserve. What you see in the picture is the café and the view of Vestamager. A row of artifical lakes have been established at the edge of Ørestaden.
Bonusinfo: In the summer cows from other parts of Denmark spend the summer on Vestamager to keep the grass down.
The apartment complex, The 8 Number, is inspired by a village placed on a hill. We have few (if any) hills in Denmark, but in this case the complex opens to two courts with about 1/3 of the apartments being town houses with a tiny ‘garden’ facing out to a path that can lead you all the way up, all the way down , and all the way around…
I couldn’t resist calling this picture “Stairway to Heaven”. It shows the begiing (or end) of one the loops you can walk, with the little town house “gardens” facing the flow of people passing by.
This is the first of two series from 8-Tallet (the number 8). This complex of apartments is designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group). Bjarke Ingels is only 37 but the man is way beyond cool. The 8 House is close to my home as are several of BIG’s early projects.
Loosen up, yoga studio, ayurvedic yoga massage, mindfulness, is just across the street from Amager Beach – very cool location. I hope the next time they have a yoga session by the beach the weather is kinder, and more people will come (the actual beach/sand is to the left in this picture).
A Monday in August I read on Facebook that Loosen up was giving a free yoga lesson down at the beach. Fie who runs Loosen up is a new friend of mine, and I thought about joining the crowd. But really, I would rather photograph the session so I contacted Fie to ask if it was okay for me to show up with my camera. I know, I know… public space, don’t have to ask permission, etc. – but I prefer to 🙂
Happily the three people that showed up on that dark and windy day (yes, it’s summer in Denmark) didn’t mind me taking pictures. I have two of them to show you on the blog.
Last picture in the Halvandet-series – and, of course, my favorite.
Just today I was standing at Amager Beach with a friend, pointing in the direction of tall chimneys and obvious signs of industry, telling her that this was where Halvandet was at. I don’t know how you would ever find this urban beach bar by coinsidence. You do pass it if you take a canal tour, but finding your way there in a car…?
